Toyota World Para Swimming Championships – Event Visual Systems
In-stadium graphics and classification visual communication for international para sports
Client: World Para Swimming

The Toyota World Para Swimming Championships 2025 is an international para sports event held in Singapore, requiring a comprehensive visual system to support both competition presentation and audience understanding.

Triken Studios was commissioned to develop in-stadium and poolside graphics for live event presentation, as well as a dedicated animation explaining the athlete classification system used in para swimming. The visuals needed to function across large-format screens within the competition venue and support clear communication to a diverse audience, including athletes, officials, spectators, and broadcast viewers.
The challenge
Para swimming classifications are complex and not immediately intuitive to general audiences.

Athletes compete across multiple classification categories based on physical impairments such as limb difference, restricted mobility, or wheelchair use. These classifications directly affect race structure, starting positions, and competitive grouping.

The challenge was to explain:
-
How different impairments are categorised
-
Why athletes may start from different positions
-
How fairness and competitive balance are maintained
This needed to be communicated clearly and respectfully, without oversimplification, while remaining suitable for a live sporting environment.
The approach
Triken Studios developed a structured 2D animation system to explain the classification framework visually.

The animation focused on representing athletes with different physical impairments using clear, neutral visual language. Movement, starting positions, and race setup were illustrated step by step to show how classification affects competition mechanics rather than performance.

In parallel, in-stadium and poolside graphics were designed to align with live event requirements, ensuring consistency between explanatory content and competition presentation.

Design decisions prioritised clarity, legibility at scale, and respectful representation over stylistic treatment.
Deployment & outcome
The animation and in-stadium graphics were deployed across competition venues at the Toyota World Para Swimming Championships, supporting both audience education and live event presentation on large-format displays.

The visuals provided a clear explanation of athlete classification and race structure, improving audience understanding and supporting consistent, professional presentation throughout the event.
